A PLEIN AIR PARTY! The ACA Summer Social is a great opportunity to paint en plein air with fellow members in the beautiful setting of Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point. It is a casual activity that affords a chance to paint with your peers, see what others are painting, and mingle during an indoor picnic lunch. With a comfortable informal atmosphere we will discuss aspects of plein air painting with experienced pros and have an informative critique session from among the works created that morning. If you do not want to paint come and watch others and learn.
START & FINISH. Although Ashton Gardens doesn't open to the public until 9 am, AMA artists may arrive as early as 8 am to begin painting. The Summer Social will officially end after lunch about 2:00 pm. Artists may choose to continue painting on their own until the gardens close at 8 pm.
PARKING & SHUTTLE. For this activity Thanksgiving Point has designated special parking for ACA members only. Please park in the gravel lot on the far west side of the Visitors' Center and enter the gardens through the convenient greenhouse gate. A shuttle cart will be available from 8 to 8:30 am to help transport gear down into the gardens or you may carry your own gear by foot. There will only be one shuttle that goes back and forth and wait times may vary. The shuttle cart will be available again from 11 to 11:30 pm to bring your gear back up to the Visitors' Center or you may carry your own gear by foot back to the Visitors' Center or your car.
GREENHOUSE GATE vs VISITORS' CENTER. If you arrive at the designated parking lot between 8-9 am please use the nearby greenhouse gate for entrance into the gardens. If you arrive after 9 am please park in the designated parking lot but use the Visitors' Center for entrance into the gardens. As long as you have registered, your name will be on a list at the front counter and you will receive your pass and be able to join us at no extra cost.
PICNIC LUNCHEON & PROGRAM. We will gather together at 12:00 noon in the Oak Room of the Visitors' Center (lower level) to enjoy our picnic lunch in an air-conditioned space. This meal is included with your registration. A short program will be provided at the end of the meal.
PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE & COST. ACA members may register themselves and their guests for the SUMMER SOCIAL (which includes entrance into the gardens, a picnic lunch, and program). Because of the special passes and catered meal we are required to give Thanksgiving Point a list of participants several days in advance. Therefore, the deadline for pre-registration is July 10, 2018 at midnight. The cost for ACA members is $20 and the rate for guests is $30. Each registered participant will be given a special pass with lanyard and name card.
LATE REGISTRATION OPTION. For those who miss the pre-registration deadline you may still join the SUMMER SOCIAL (which includes entrance into the gardens, a picnic lunch, and program) by registering online before July 13, 2018 at midnight and paying an extra $5 late fee.
SALES. Paintings may be sold in the gardens to interested buyers; however, all sales must go through Ashton Gardens Art Gallery where sales tax will be collected and receipts will be given. For artwork sales please call Cynthia Dye at 801-518-0318 and she will take care of the paperwork. Please do not sell directly in the gardens as this could jeopardize further art events at Thanksgiving Point. Whether artwork is sold in the gardens or through the gallery the commission is the same: 60% for artists (which will be paid within 30 days).
ASHTON GARDENS ART GALLERY. As a benefit to ACA members some of the paintings may be selected for the Ashton Gardens Art Gallery which is located in the Terrace Room of the Visitors' Center where they will be given expansive exposure and increased opportunity for sales.
